NEW NAME, SAME GREAT CIDER

To Our Valued Distributors,

We have big news to share! First of all, we want to thank you for your support, and your commitment to helping spread the joy of our locally sourced craft ciders to our avid fans and beyond.

On June 1, 2018, at our massive 5 year anniversary carnival, we will be unveiling a new name to the public! Atlas Cider will become Avid Cider.

While we would like to say that this decision is motivated entirely by our excitement for the name Avid Cider, and the connection to our loyal fans that it represents, that's not the situation. In 2013, the trademark office approved the name Atlas Cider with no confusion in the marketplace. However, a year ago, we were contacted by the owner of Atlas Brew Works, a small brewery in Washington DC. We were disappointed to learn that the Atlas Brew Works name was trademarked a mere three weeks before our own. After a lengthy negotiation and much soul-searching, we decided that we wanted to move forward as a company without any possible future issues surrounding our name.

Most importantly, we want to share that our name is the only thing that will change. We are not re-branding. Our iconic logo is trademarked and will remain a familiar feature on all of our products. None of our current plans, from the opening of our Pearl location to our partnership with the Trail Blazers, will be changing. And, of course, we will continue making the same excellent cider in all of the flavors our customers have come to expect. In addition, we hold the trademark on Avid Cider, and everything is ready for the transition- from graphics and labels to tap handles and swag.

We made this decision with confidence because we know that our success over the last five years has had nothing to do with our name. Certainly, the awesome flavors and quality of our product have played a starring role, but really, our success has been a direct result of the intense, tireless, and creative marketing and promotion that we, and our distributors, have invested. This name change is another opportunity to build suspense and generate buzz around our product, and we will be backing it with a lengthy promotional and public relations push, both before and long after the big reveal in June.

We wanted you to be the first to know because we trust you as a partner, and we want you to feel prepared to answer any questions that may come up with the businesses in your distribution network.

Thank you again for your avid support, and cheers to the continued success of Avid Cider!

Atlas Cider Company Sweeps the Oregon Wine Awards

Bend, Oregon's Atlas Cider Company takes Best of Class, Double Gold and Gold awards at 2017 Oregon Wine Awards

At this year's prestigious Oregon Wine Awards, dozens of certified professionals carefully sniffed, swirled, sipped, and scored a massive line up of over 1,380 local wines and ciders. When it was all over, Bend, Oregon's own Atlas Cider Company had not only won top honors, but achieved an impressive sweep of the three highest awards.  The Atlas Apricot cider wowed the judges and earned the highest score of all ciders, a "Best of Class" Double Gold, while the Blackberry won a Double Gold, and the Apple won Gold.

Atlas Cider Company owner, Dan McCoy, was thrilled when the results came out in June.  "We have worked so hard on these ciders over the last four years, really priding ourselves on producing flavorful, drinkable ciders using local Northwest ingredients, so to have all three of the ciders that we entered in the competition win gold or higher is an incredible recognition of that hard work."

Dan also appreciates that the Oregon Wine Awards is a professionally conducted blind tasting, really lending integrity to the results.  This is the 9th year of the competition in which, local, national and international wine and cider professionals gather to seek out the best wines and ciders in Oregon.  The judges, including Master Sommeliers, Wine Directors, Buyers, Makers, Masters of Wine and journalists, do blind tastings and score Oregon wines and ciders in eight different categories, such as aroma, flavor, complexity and finish.  The top ranking entries are then given Bronze, Silver, Gold and Double Gold Awards of Excellence, with only one receiveing the Best of Class Double Gold.

Atlas Cider Company is based in Bend, Oregon and was forged by Dan and Samantha McCoy in 2013 with a clear mission: to create a new Pacific Northwest tradition of flavorful, locally sourced hard cider.  Our inspiration and passion for cider was born from our connections to two different worlds- the Pacific Northwest and Europe.  Through our roots in England, and our travels throughout Europe, we discovered a world of cider flavors and varieties absent in America.  And through our love of the outdoors and life here in the Pacific Northwest, we discovered a region with the soil and seasons to grow apples better than any other place on Earth!  Atlas Cider Company is now proud to be at the forefront of a new revolution in locally sourced craft cider. Atlas Cider: NW to the core!

Atlas Cider Replaces Session Apple with Organic Dry Apple

"This commitment to local and organic represents our companies' values." -Dan McCoy

At Atlas Cider, we believe that someday all farms will be organic (again). And we hope that people will look back on this waning era of pesticides with puzzlement and disbelief.

We created Atlas Organic Dry Apple with this intention: to support local organic farmers and celebrate their dedication to advancing food production toward a sustainable future.  As owner Dan McCoy affirms, "This is not a small-batch or seasonal commitment on our part.  We have completely replaced our flagship Session Apple with the new Organic Dry Apple, and it is now available everywhere that the Apple was- in cans, bottles and on taps."

"We have always been committed to Northwest fruits," Dan added, "Why not?  I know we have the best fruit growers in the nation right here in the Northwest.  Now, we've reached a place as a company that opens the door to working with local organic apple growers as well.  It does add expense, but with few organic hard ciders available, we really wanted to lead in this area and show that it can be done successfully."

The result? A blend of Organic Granny Smith and Cripps Pink apples create a flavor that is dry on the tongue, yet with a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness.

In addition to the new Organic Dry Apple, we have also installed cutting edge production equipment to virtually eliminate sulfites in our ciders.  We want to make the cleanest product possible, and protect people that might have a sensitivity or allergy to sulfites.

Please enjoy a sample of our Organic Dry Apple!  Feel free to give it a review, or help us spread the word about Northwest organic farms and the flavorful cider their apples can produce!  We are hoping to see a strong response on this new flavor, so that we can continue to support the dedicated farmers that are blazing a trail toward an all-organic future.  Thank you!

Portland Trail Blazers Choose Atlas Cider Company as Official Partner

Bend, Oregon's Atlas Cider Company is the first Oregon cider company to be an official partner of The Portland Trail Blazers, and the first local cider option to be on draft at all Moda Center events.

Now that the Portland Trailblazers' new season is underway, fans are enjoying an updated roster on the court, and, for the first time, a local hard cider option on tap in the Moda Center.  Atlas Cider Company, Oregon's second largest hard cider maker, will not only be a refreshing new drink option at all Moda Center events, but they are also the team's newest sponsor and an official partner of the Trail Blazers.  Over the summer, while the Trail Blazers were looking to build their team roster with some solid draft picks, they were also on the hunt for a local craft cider to add to the Moda Center's roster of draft options.  Ultimately, the Trail Blazers organization decided that Atlas Cider would be the best fit as the Trail Blazers official partner.  And the Blazers fans we talked to agreed.  "I have been wanting a good hard cider option at Blazer's games, and Atlas is my favorite!" one fan told us.  And here at Atlas Cider, we are confident that the Moda Center's newest "draft" pick will quickly become a star player at games and events.

Joining the Trail Blazers family represents an exciting new chapter in Atlas Ciders' small business success story.  Just four years ago, Dan and Sam McCoy were both public school teachers in Central Oregon.  It was a dizzying risk for them to convert their family tradition of enjoying hard cider and Dan's cider fermentation hobby into a new business venture- producing locally sourced craft cider.  Yet they made the leap, and named it Atlas, after their son.

Now, as they stand in the Moda Center sporting broad smiles and their favorite Blazers shirts, Dan and Sam reflect on how far they have come, the hard work along the way, and how becoming an official partner of the Trail Blazers is a remarkable milestone. "I think back to when I was a little girl, going to Blazers games with my Dad," Sam commented, "and I remember thinking what an amazing, bright spectacle it all was.  It's incredible to think that our company name will soon be on display here."

"Absolutely," Dan added, "and we look forward to sharing the coming season's games with the whole Atlas team: our family, friends, distributors, accounts, and, of course, our amazing employees.  They have all done so much to help us get here."  Atlas cider has grown from a small operation just starting out in Bend four years ago to producing almost a quarter million gallons of cider last year and appearing on shelves all over the Northwest and as far away as Japan. The Atlas team, like our Portland Trail Blazers, is on the rise and headed for a bright future.
